Series 7 Minifigs

A friend of mine just sold me a complete set of Series 7 minifigs, and for the most part, they are pretty cool. While many in the AFOL (Adult Fans of LEGO) community seem to be losing some enthusiasm for the figs, I find them a neat addition to the LEGO world. That being said, my personal favorite is probably the Hippie, while the continuing theme of a minifig in a costume (this year, a bunny) is a bit creepy, IMO.

Building Toy Upstart Eyes LEGO

“What distinguishes Modular Toy’s products, says founder Minin, a 34-year-old industrial and graphic designer, is that they enable kids to build ever more complex structures, strengthening their abstract thinking, spatial reasoning and general understanding of engineering.”

Based on the photo in the article - the Modular Toys don’t impress me at all. It seems that these guys haven’t taken a look at Brickshelf and seen many of the “more complex” models LEGO fans have built. Good luck Modular Toys - but I say you’re targeting the wrong audience.

Muji LEGO Paper Toys

So - I’ve seen these IRL - at a Japanese store, here in Seattle - and thought it was “interesting” but not a “must have.” For the most part, I love papercraft - and obviously love LEGO - but many of the Muji “sets” I’ve seen simply don’t seem like a lot of thought was put in to the overall design. That being said - it may be easier said than done (good design) - so, maybe I’ll work on something in the future…

Hmmm… let’s see - at around U$00.05/piece, this would be a U$500.00 set - though for Star Wars licensed sets closer to U$00.10/piece, a U$1,000.00 would be WAY too expensive, IMO. Either way - you have to catch the video - and amazing model by Marshal Banana (wonder if this is his real last name?).
